Frequently asked questions
Q: How do I find your new private studio?
A: My new studio in Glastonbury is located inside Mane Aesthetics at 30 Hebron ave. I am in the building next door to Mane & co hair lounge. It is the first building at the front of Derr plaza, upstairs from Kumon (which is the easiest sign to spot). The Mane Aesthetics door is a black door around the left corner from Kumon that goes upstairs, and there is a round sign that says Mane Aesthetics.
The GPS may bring you to the back of the plaza, where First & Last Tavern is, off Rankin Rd/New London Tpke. You can drive thru to the other side of our plaza from there! We are all getting used to the new location, so if you have any questions please reach out
Q: The parking lot is busy! Where can I park?
A: The parking lot is very busy when Ken's Corner is open until 1-2pm. If the lot is full when you pull in, there's some additional parking in the back of the plaza before First & Last Tavern, and some other limited parking on Main st.
Q: How do I book an appointment?
A: Please contact me via email at jess.spiritcult@gmail.com, or instagram dm’s @thespiritcult!
Q: What are your prices like?
A: My shop minimum is $100 and my hourly rate on larger pieces is $120 per hour.
Q: Do you require a deposit?
A: I have started taking $40 deposits for some new clients. Deposits come off the final price of the tattoo.
Deposits are payable via cashapp or venmo. If you need a different method of payment, let me know and we can work something out. Deposits can only roll over for ONE reschedule. Rescheduling a second time, canceling with less than 24 hour notice, or no call no show-ing will forfeit your deposit. A new deposit would be required to book again.
Q: How do I cancel or reschedule my appointment?
A: Reach out to me directly as soon as you can. Chronic rescheduling may prompt me to no longer accept appointments from you. I deeply respect your time and ask for the same in return. No call no shows will end our working relationship.
Q: Do you draw designs ahead?
A: Yes! I draw a few days ahead and will reach out to show you and make any last minute changes. This also gives you an opportunity to cancel or reschedule if something came up since the appointment was booked.
Q: Should I wear a mask?
A: Only if you’d like to. I still wear a mask while I tattoo.
Q: Can I book an appointment for two people?
A: Yes! But I may require a deposit for each person.
Q: Can I bring a guest to my appointment?
A: Yes! But please just one. I’m in a smaller area than I used to be, there is a smaller waiting area that is shared with a few other small women owned businesses. As we want to be mindful to those I share the common space with, I ask to limit guests and greatly appreciate it!
Q: Do you do color tattoos?
A: Short answer - no. Longer answer - I would be glad to do small pops of one or two colors, or SMALL color pieces on regular customers that I’ve tattooed before and have a comfortable working relationship with!
Q: Do you tattoo designs more than once?
A: Smaller flash pieces I am happy to tattoo repeatedly. Larger stand alone pieces I will only tattoo once, but can always use them as inspiration to create a new piece for you.
Q: Do you do cover ups?
A: No, my style is so light and fineline it’s usually not bold enough to work well for a cover up.
Q: Do you do touch ups?
A: I offer touch ups for life on any tattoo you’ve had done by me. The easiest time to get an older piece touched up is in the same sitting as a new piece (but of course not a requirement). If you think you’d like a touch up please reach out and include a picture and we can get you in!
Q: Will you touch up someone else’s work?
A: Not usually. Only in very specific scenarios.
Q: Does your shop do piercings?
A: No! I am no longer located in a shop with a piercer, I’m sorry! (Turnpike will always have the best prices for basic piercings, but Black Diamond in West Hartford is higher end and also wonderful)
Q: I can't remember how you said to take care of my new tattoo, can you remind me?
A: I include an aftercare instruction sheet in the goodie bag I will give you at the end of your appointment, with some other goodies. But it entails the following: If you got saniderm, keep it on for 3-5 days and then proceed with normal cleaning. Clean 2-3x a day with unscented antibacterial soap, pat dry with paper towel, and apply a thin layer of aquaphor or a&d. After 2-3 days you can switch from the ointment to an unscented lotion as long as needed to keep the tattoo feeling moist. Peeling is normal. Scabbing can be normal. Don't scratch or pick. Do not submerge in water, or put in direct sunlight for at least 2 weeks. Use sunscreen only after completely healed.
